Obituary of John Charles Ziliani

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that we report the passing of longtime Manhasset and Hallandale Beach resident, John Charles Ziliani, on March 16, 2024.

John was born on January 26th, 1940 in Manhattan.  He was the son of Carlo and Ida Ziliani.  Years later the family relocated to Astoria where he spent his childhood playing football in Astoria Park and swimming in Astoria Pool.  He attended Queensboro Community College.  He then met the love of his life, Louise, who he married in 1965 and always referred to as “the best thing I ever did in my life.” He worked for Consolidated Edison, Inc. for 44 years as a Construction Contracts Manager.

He was a devoted husband and father to his two children.  He had many hobbies.  He loved traveling to Italy, Italian wine and cooking, opera, watching his beloved NY Yankees, soccer, and fishing on his boat “Lujon.”  He also loved thoroughbred horse racing.  It was his dream to buy race horses when he retired and to win a race at a New York racetrack.  That dream was fulfilled when his favorite horse, Sentimental Lass, won four races including a stakes race at Belmont Park.  She was even nominated for 2010 New York Bred Divisional Champion 2-Year Old Filly.

John’s family meant everything to him.  He is survived by his wife, Louise, his daughter, Jean, and his son, John.  May he find eternal rest and his soul be at peace with God to act as an angel watching over his loving family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-5 & 7-9pm.

The funeral mass will be on Friday at St. Mary's RC Church,Manhasset at 10:15am.

Burial will be private at Gate Of Heaven, Hawthorne, NY
